The
Uspensky monastery, located in far South Odessa, is
a 40-minute ride on the #19 tram. It was on of only
there divinity schools which remained open during
the Soviet Union regime. Monks work the land, sell
holy water, consecrate oil, and bless crosses. There
is a fresh water spring there. Women are advised to
wear a conservative skirt and cover their heads, or
they may be asked to leave.
