Monastery

The Uspensky monastery, located in far South Odessa, is a 40-minute ride on the #19 tram. It was on of only there divinity schools which remained open during the Soviet Union regime. Monks work the land, sell holy water, consecrate oil, and bless crosses. There is a fresh water spring there. Women are advised to wear a conservative skirt and cover their heads, or they may be asked to leave.
