Passaj
(Пассаж)
Deribasovskaya 33 (Дерибасовская)
The architect
Lev Vlodek built the Passaj from 1898-1899, a beautiful
hotel and an ornately decorated corridor connected
to Deribasovskaya and Preobrazhenskaya (Преображенская).
The corridor has glassed arches, molded ornaments
and several sculptures. (Lev
Vlodek also built Gogolya 5 and 7 and the former
"Novaya
Moskovskaya")
On the
roof of the Deribasovskaya side of the corridor, flanking
either side of the Пассаж sign, there is the a dilapidated
statue of the Greek God Mercury on a steam engine
and Ceres on a boat.
